Dr. York obtained his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Florida in 1993 and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Institute of the Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia in 1994. Dr. York’s approach to treatment is tailored to the needs of the individual, couple or family and is informed by an integrative understanding of cognitive-behavioral techniques, psychodynamic techniques and holistic/systemic techniques (e.g. mindfulness/meditation, lifestyle development and optimization). Dr. York has experience treating individuals, couples and families from childhood through retirement. Dr. York’s particular areas of expertise include: 1) Alleviation of personal tension/interpersonal conflicts arising in relation to achievement-oriented lifestyles, 2) Traditional Psychological Assessment and Psychotherapeutic Assessment of intellectual, emotional and interpersonal functioning as well as learning styles, 3) Treatment of Anxiety Disorders including social anxiety, general anxiety and panic episodes, 4) Treatment of chronic relationship problems or life dissatisfaction that have been impervious to prior treatment attempts, 5) Helping individuals with chronic illnesses optimize their life quality, satisfaction and functionality. Dr. York’s recent professional activities include: 1) Teaching and supervising doctoral students in psychological assessment/testing at Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, Delaware 2) Co-leading a research study on the ability of personality tests to predict psychotherapy utilization in an outpatient practice, 3) Devising and co-leading a psychotherapy treatment group for individuals suffering from profound social anxiety, 4) Consulting with the faculty of the Dept. of Family Medicine of Christiana Care Health System to understand the role of individual personality variables in satisfaction and conflict resolution during periods of significant organizational change. Dr. York has been in clinical practice for twelve years and is licensed in New Jersey, Pennsylvania & Delaware. He has been a member of the medical staff of the Department of Psychiatry at Christiana Care Health System for the past nine years. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Society for Personality Assessment and he is an adjunct faculty member of Widener University, the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Immaculata University. In April of 2007 he received the Outstanding Supervisor Award from the Widener Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology.
